Educational
Philosophy/Curriculum
Our goal is to provide each child
with the tools necessary to begin a successful and happy formal
education that begins with kindergarten.
Two, three and four year old children
are not only capable but eager to learn many things. To help accelerate
each child's growth and development our Preschool provides opportunities
for:
Free Play
through which the child learns sharing, cooperation, waiting for
a turn, listening and following directions.
Group Learning
to stimulate language development, independence, creative expression
and positive attitudes to school settings and formal education.
Indoor and Outdoor Play to
help large muscle development and coordination.
Values and Attitudes
based upon Christian beliefs to reinforce what is being taught
at home. Christian prayers, songs and Bible stories will be a
part of the Preschool curriculum.

Hours
of Operation
Classes for the 2004-2005 school
year begin Tuesday, August 10, 2004. Classroom hours are from
9:00AM - 12:00 Noon each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Children
should not arrive prior to 8:55 AM and should be picked up promptly
at 12:00 Noon. The adult who brings them to Preschool should accompany
each child to the playground fence. We have adopted "ADULTS
STOP AT THE GATE" policy. We believe a firm and loving good-bye
and a positive attitude on the part of the parents works wonders
and will be best for all concerned.
We will observe the same holidays
as the Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS). If the Wayne County
School system is closed due to inclement weather or workdays that
fall during our operating hours, the Preschool will be closed.
However, if the county schools are only delayed, we will operate
as usual at the Preschool.

Admission
and Dismissals
The Preschool shall assess the readiness
of all students to participate in the Preschool program. All students
must be potty trained before they will be allowed to attend Preschool.
Curriculum will follow the current research and practice on educating
two, three and four year olds in the Preschool environment.
The staff is not trained to meet
the needs of every child, especially those with severe development
and/or emotional problems. As a Preschool with a vision of Christian
ministry, we will evaluate each student and attempt to address
that student's needs if at all possible.
In the event that any student prevents
instruction for others, is violent to other students and/or the
teacher, the teacher and the FMP Director will confer with the
parents. If problems continue, the Director must contact the Preschool
Board. The Board will review the situation and reserves the right
to terminate enrollment.
A waiting list will be maintained
for vacancies occuring during the school year.

Discipline
The purpose of discipline is to
teach acceptable behavior. Teaching techniques include close supervision,
attention to and praise for acceptable behavior, redirecting behavior
and "time out".
"Time out" is the removal
of a child for a short time (approximately one minute per year
of age) for the situation in which the child is misbehaving. This
technique includes:
1. Moving the child away from the
activity to a quiet place within view,
2. Telling the child why he/she has been removed, and
3. Letting the child know he/she can return to the activity when
he/she can behave correctly.
If "time out" is not effective,
the teacher will request a conference with the parents to determine
the best course of action for that child.

Field
Trips
Parents will be notified of all
field trips in advance. Permission slips will be sent home to
be signed and returned in order for your child to participate.
Parental assistance is welcomed and needed. Children are required
to be buckled into seat belts on trips away from school. We will

Illness
If a child is sick, please do not
send them to Preschool. Keep your child home for 24 hours after
fever, cough, etc. subsides to ensure that he/she is ready for
a full schedule upon return to school. If a child develops a fever
or begins vomiting at school, the child will be isolated from
the other children and parents will be notified. A teacher will
not give medicine to a child.

Visitation
and Conferences
Parents are welcome to observe their
children's classroom. We would appreciate you giving your child's
teacher some advance notice to prevent schedule conflicts. We
find that if parents remain in the background and do not interact
with the child, they get a truer picture of normal classroom circumstance
and it is less disruptive to the daily schedule.
If you have any questions concerning
your child's progress or Preschool experience, please feel free
to request a conference with either your child's teacher, the
Preschool Director or with both. Your child's teacher will be
happy to schedule such conferences. The teacher will attempt to
schedule conferences immediately before or after school.

Birthdays
Birthdays are special and we celebrate
them during morning snack time. You may share refreshments with
your child's class during this time. If small treat bags are provided
for each student, they must be sealed and not given out during
the party. They will be sent home at the end of the day. Please
talk with your child's teacher to set a date and time.
Daily
Schedules
Your child's day will include time
in the classroom in learning centers, group times, snack, outdoor
play, story and music sessions.

Clothing
Dress your child in comfortable
clothing suitable for play. Children will play outside everyday
that weather permits. Please send appropriate outerwear. Remember
to mark clothing with your child's name. Shoes must be worn at
all times in Preschool.

Scholastic
Book Orders
We believe that reading with your
child is one of the most important things you can do to help with
their development. Each month a Scholastic Book Order will be
sent home with your child. With each book order, the Preschool
earns bonus points for books. These books are added to our Preschool
library. If you are interested in placing an order, please return
the form and your payment by the due date given each month. Please
make your checks payable to Fremont Methodist Preschool.

Fundraisers
The preschool sponsors several different
fundraisers throughout the school year. Parents and students are
encouraged to fully participate in each of these events. Previous
fundraisers have allowed us to purchase our playground equipment,
books, toys and other needed items for Preschool.
The Preschool sponsors a float in
the annual Fremont Christmas Parade on the first Saturday in December.
We would like for all of our students to ride in the parade. There
is no cost to the students or parents for this event.
We also participate in the annual
Fremont Daffodil Festival in March. Further information about
this event will be sent home later in the year.
Other Items
Each child should understand that
they MUST NOT leave the Preschool area without their teacher's
permission.
Parents should notify the Preschool
of any change of address or telephone number during the school
year.
If someone other than your designated
driver will be dropping off/picking up your child, please call
the Director or send a note to your child's teacher to let us
know about this change.
You can contact the Preschool during
its operational hours by calling FUMC at 242-4797.
