I
was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was
naked and you gave me clothing. I was sick and you took care of
me. I was in prison and you visited me.
Matthew 25: 35-36
The woman is representative of all United Methodist Women in
the North Carolina Conference. Around her neck she wears a cross
symbolizing our salvation through the life, death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ and our belief that to keep the faith we must
take up our cross daily and follow Christ.
She is superimposed on an equilateral triangle which represents
the trinity. Following the perfect model of Father, Son and Holy
Spirit, we were created by the Trinitarian community to be in
community with God and our neighbors.
In one hand she holds the scales of justice. Without a blindfold
she is able to see the injustice around her and she weighs on
her scales the actions she needs to take in order to right those
wrongs of society wherever she can.
In the other hand she holds a glass of water. Offering a drink
of pure, fresh water to the thirsty symbolizes the mission of
United Methodist Women as we strive to make our world a better
place for all of humanity.
